RICHMOND, BC, July 31, 2015 /CNW/ – Vancouver International Airport (YVR) welcomes the latest expansion to Canada China Transit Program, announced today by the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Effective immediately, five Chinese cities have been added to the list of approved Asian cities from which Chinese nationals can travel to YVR en route to the U.S. without requiring a Canadian visa.

The addition of Xiamen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Harbin more than doubles the number of mainland Chinese cities in the program, and comes just months after Minister Alexander expanded the program to include Tokyo and Seoul in May 2015. Spearheaded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Minister Alexander worked closely with Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney to develop a system that would be economically beneficial for Canada while continuing to protect our borders. Under Minister Blaney’s leadership, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) expedited the risk assessment of each of the five cities, helping accelerate today’s program expansion. Eligibility criteria and the list of participating cities are available on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

…

The expanding Canada China Transit Program enables YVR to capitalize on its geographic advantage and continue to grow as North America‘s preferred connecting hub.

Airlines currently participating in the program are: Air Canada, Air Canada rouge, Air China, WestJet, Cathay Pacific, Philippine Airlines, China Southern, Jazz Air, Sky Regional Airlines and Air Georgian.

“The addition of Chengdu, Fuzhou, Harbin, Shenyang and Xiamen to the Canada China Transit Program means even greater choice and flexibility for eligible Chinese travelers transiting through Canada, as well as new business opportunities for participating airlines and airports,” said Chris Alexander, Canada‘s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

…

“With the addition of five new cities to the Canada China Transit Program, our government continues to demonstrate its commitment to facilitating legitimate trade and travel, “said Steven Blaney, Canada‘s Minister of Public Safety.

If you are among the fortunate travellers who do not require a visa to enter Canada on a visit, you may want to check out the latest changes, or you will arrive at the airport without permission to enter.

From March next year, it is no longer possible to enter through one of the country’s airports without prior approval, even if the visitor does not require a visit visa. This visitor will be required to apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), announced the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

The change will be effective March 15, 2016, and travellers will be able to apply from August 1 this year. The application must be submitted online and a fee of CAD7 (Dh20) applies.

The ETA is only requires when a person enters the country through airport, and applies to applicants for a temporary visit who do not require a visa to Canada. Previously, these visitors were systematically screened upon arrival.

…

The following is the opinion of a Burnaby immigration consultant working for RS Immigration Corporation that has chosen to remain anonymous. It may or may not reflect the opinion(s) of RS Immigration Corporation. RS Immigration Corp provides assistance with Canadian immigration applications.

All visa applications to Canada will soon require bio metrics (2018-19). Moreover, visa exempt travellers to Canada by airport will soon need an electronic travel authorization (ETA).

This ETA, in my opinion, is a solution to the number of visa exempt visitors to Canada denied entry. With person being pre-screened, it will cut down on wait times and reduce government/tax payer costs. An example cost is the return fare to the visa exempt persons country of residence. Also, this ETA benefits those who are visa exempt and are unsure about their inadmissibility to Canada. Instead of learning at the airport and having to return home unexpected.
