The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program will not accept new applications in 2026. Only around 10,000 applications from 2025 invitations are being processed. Applicants who missed the 2025 invitation will have to wait until future intake.
Temporary options like Super Visas allow parents to stay in Canada during the pause.

There’s a lot of confusion online, with some claiming the BC PNP is closed. That’s not accurate. The BC PNP is still active as a pathway to permanent residency, but it’s more limited in 2025–2026.
Quotas are smaller.
Popular streams like International Post-Graduate (IPG) have stricter requirements or are temporarily paused.
Fewer Invitations to Apply (ITAs) are being issued, making the program highly competitive.
Applicants must optimize their profiles, gain work experience, and monitor draws closely to take advantage of this pathway. BC PNP remains a valid and strategic route for PR — just more selective than before.

Canada has stopped accepting new applications for Home Care Worker and In-Home Caregiver pilots. The program was paused because of too many applicants, and only pending applications are being processed.
A new program may be created in the future to address the high demand for caregivers in Canada. Applicants seeking caregiver pathways should consider alternatives such as TR-to-PR, Express Entry, or provincial nomination programs in the meantime.
The Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR-to-PR) pathway is expected to reopen in 2026, but the eligibility criteria are not yet finalized.
Key points:
Occupations in demand and required Canadian work experience are still under review.
Temporary residents, including workers and international graduates, may qualify once criteria are announced.
This pathway allows you to convert temporary status to permanent residency without starting over in Express Entry.
It’s crucial to maintain valid status in Canada and gain Canadian work experience to strengthen your future application once TR-to-PR opens.

Canada continues to welcome international students, but intake caps are in place.
New PGWP rules require non-degree programs to be on the eligible list. Graduates of bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD programs automatically qualify. Timing of your study permit application also impacts eligibility.

PGP: Paused — Super Visa is the short-term option.
BC PNP: Still open but limited; highly competitive PR pathway.
Caregiver Programs: Paused due to high demand; consider TR-to-PR, Express Entry, or provincial options. A new caregiver program may be created in the future.
TR-to-PR: Likely to reopen in 2026; eligibility criteria not yet finalized. Gain Canadian experience now.
PGWP: Ensure your program is eligible; timing matters.
