To apply for a study permit, you must gather the following documents:

  1. Proof of Acceptance
    • Obtain a letter of acceptance (LOA) from your school, to be submitted with your study permit application.
  2. Attestation Letter from Province/Territory

    • Starting January 22, 2024, most students need an attestation letter from the province or territory where they plan to study. Learn how to obtain it and be aware of exemptions.

  3. Proof of Identity
    • Submit a valid passport or travel document, along with recent passport-size photos.
  4. Proof of Financial Support
    • Demonstrate your ability to support yourself and family members with various acceptable proofs, such as a Canadian bank account, Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC), or proof of funding.

Conditional Acceptance and Prerequisite Courses

Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)

  • Students planning to study in Quebec for over 6 months need an attestation of issuance of CAQ from the Government of Quebec.
