It’s that time of year again, where people are rushing to prepare sponsoring parents for permanent residency application. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will start accepting applications on January 2, 2016.

There is a maximum cap of 5000 applications and only the first 5000 complete applications will be processed for permanent residency. This article will discuss the history, using the right application forms and politics surrounding sponsoring parents for permanent residency.

1) History of the sponsoring parents for permanent residency

In November, 2011, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) paused sponsoring parents for permanent residency applications for 24 months to reduce a backlog of applications. CIC reopened parents sponsorship Canada in 2014 accepting the first 5000 complete applications. In 2014, it took 19 days to reach sponsoring parents for permanent residency 5000 application cap maximum.

In 2015, sponsoring parents for permanent residency Canada applications cap remained at the first 5,000 applications received. It took 1.5 days to reach this 5000 cap max. So, you can only imagine how quickly the January 2, 2016 cap will be reached.

The first thing CIC checks when receiving a sponsoring parents for permanent residency application are the forms. CIC will ensure all the forms are the most current and if any of them are missing any information. If the forms are not the most current, they will not count towards the 5000 cap for sponsoring parents for permanent residency and will be returned. Citizenship and Immigration Canada changes the forms every year and CIC can update the forms at any time. So, ensure you use the most current forms.

In 2014, Citizenship and Immigration Canada updated the forms for sponsoring parents for permanent residency in the eleventh hour. For January 2, 2016 applications forms for sponsoring parents for permanent residency Canada are currently showing dates of November 2014. Don’t be surprised if the forms change, be ready.

3) Politics and the sponsoring parents for permanent residency

Both Mulcair’s NDP and Trudeau’s Liberals have stated, if they get voted in, they would remove or increase the 5000 cap for sponsoring parents for permanent residency. Also, assign additional resources to help with processing of these applications. There is no way to determine who will win the election or how this will affect the cap or application process for the January 2, 2016 sponsoring parents for permanent residency intake.
