If you’re planning to come to Canada for the FIFA World Cup 2026, here’s the harsh truth: most of what you see online about visas and work permits is flat-out wrong. Social media is full of scammers promising magic shortcuts — and people are falling for it.

Let’s break down the real deal, so you don’t waste time, money, or risk your entry into Canada.

🚨 The Scams Are Real

CBC News reports that misleading videos on TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp are claiming there’s a “special FIFA visa” that lets fans and volunteers work or even settle in Canada.

“Videos suggest there is a way to legally immigrate to Canada if you are attending the World Cup, which is misleading,” says immigration lawyer Navdeep Bains. (CBC News, 2026)

Here’s what they’re not telling you:

There is no FIFA visa that guarantees work or permanent residency.

Temporary exemptions only apply to official FIFA event workers.

Falling for a “guaranteed visa” pitch can cost thousands — and get you flagged by Canadian immigration.

This is classic FIFA World Cup Canada immigration misinformation. And ignoring it can ruin your trip or immigration plans.

🧠 The Truth About FIFA Work Exemptions

Canada does offer a limited work permit exemption for FIFA-invited workers, but it’s extremely narrow:

Only for people officially hired by FIFA or its partners.

Only for short-term, event-specific work.

Must enter and leave Canada within a specific window.

This does not mean attending a match ticket or volunteering unofficially gets you a visa. (Government of Canada, 2026)

The scammers are twisting this tiny exception into a “get-any-visa” cheat code — it’s misleading and dangerous.

🍁 Canada Immigration Still Works the Old-Fashioned Way

No shortcut changes the rules:

Visitors need a TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) or eTA if required.

Work permits must be legitimate and employer-sponsored.

Permanent Residency still comes through Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, or TR-to-PR pathways.

Ignoring this and chasing rumors is like trying to score a goal from midfield — possible? Maybe. Smart? Absolutely not.

Millions of visitors are expected to travel to Canada, making it one of the largest international sporting events the country has ever hosted.
Entry Requirements for FIFA World Cup 2026 Canada

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that match tickets alone do not guarantee entry into Canada.

Common Questions About Getting a Visa to Canada

Getting a temporary resident visa to Canada can be a daunting task for many. The process involves a lot of paperwork, documentation, and meeting specific requirements. Here are some common questions about getting a temporary resident visa to Canada.

What is a temporary resident visa, and who needs one?

A temporary resident visa, also known as a visitor visa, is an official document issued by the Canadian government that allows foreign nationals to enter Canada for a temporary stay. It is required for individuals who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents and who want to visit Canada for tourism, business, or to visit family and friends.

What are the eligibility criteria for a temporary resident visa?

To be eligible for a temporary resident visa, you must:

Have a valid travel document, such as a passport

Be in good health

Have no criminal record

Convince an immigration officer that you have ties, such as a job, home, financial assets or family, that will take you back to your home country after your visit to Canada

Convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit

Have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada

Pay the necessary fees

How do I apply for a temporary resident visa?

You can apply for a temporary resident visa online or on paper. To apply, you will need to complete the application form, provide the required documents, pay the application fees, and submit your application. The application process can take several weeks, so it is recommended to apply well in advance of your planned visit to Canada.

How long does it take to process a temporary resident visa application?

The processing time for a temporary resident visa application varies depending on the country or region where you are applying from. It can take as little as a few days to as long as several months. You can check the current processing times for temporary resident visa applications on the IRCC website.

Can I work in Canada on a temporary resident visa?

In most cases, visitors to Canada are not allowed to work without a work permit. However, there are some exceptions, such as certain business visitors and foreign students who have a study permit that includes a work permit.

If you have further questions about getting a temporary resident visa to Canada, it is recommended to consult the IRCC website or seek the advice of an immigration lawyer or consultant.

If so, you may need to apply for a Canada Visitor Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). In this essay, we will discuss the step-by-step process of applying for a Canada Visitor Visa and provide 5 helpful links to the IRCC website.

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility

Before you begin your application, you need to determine your eligibility for a Canada Visitor Visa. You must meet several requirements, including having a valid passport, being in good health, and having enough funds to support your stay in Canada. For a full list of eligibility requirements, visit the IRCC website.

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

The next step is to gather all the required documents for your application. This includes your passport, photographs, travel itinerary, and proof of financial support. Additionally, you may need to provide a letter of invitation from your Canadian host or an explanation of your travel purpose. For a complete list of required documents, visit the IRCC website.

Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form

Once you have determined your eligibility and gathered all the necessary documents, you can begin filling out the application form online. Make sure to answer all questions truthfully and accurately. The application fee must also be paid online at the time of submission. For assistance with filling out the application form, visit the IRCC website.

Step 4: Submit Your Application

After you have completed the application form and paid the fee, you can submit your application to the IRCC. Depending on your country of origin, you may be required to submit your biometric information, such as fingerprints and photographs, at a designated Visa Application Centre. For information on biometric requirements and locations, visit the IRCC website.

Step 5: Wait for Processing

Once your application has been submitted, you will need to wait for it to be processed. The processing time varies depending on several factors, including your country of origin and the time of year. You can check the status of your application online using the unique tracking number provided to you upon submission. For more information on processing times, visit the IRCC website.

In conclusion, applying for a Canada Visitor Visa may seem overwhelming, but by following these steps and utilizing the resources provided on the IRCC website, you can make the process much smoother. Remember to determine your eligibility, gather required documents, fill out the application form, submit your application, and wait for processing.
‌”…Building on the success of the PGP Program in recent years, the Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will invite a record number of people to apply under the 2021 intake of the Program. IRCC will accept up to 30,000 additional applications, giving more Canadians and permanent residents than ever before the opportunity to bring their loved ones to Canada.

Using the same random selection process as used in previous years, IRCC will send invitations to potential sponsors who have already submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020. This will give additional interested sponsors the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. Invitations to apply will be sent over the course of 2 weeks, starting the week of September 20, 2021.

Those invited to apply as part of this process will be able to use our new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, which allows applications to be submitted electronically. This is part of our commitment to modernize Canada’s immigration system, and will speed up and simplify the application process.

We know that many Canadian families have experienced financial difficulties in the last year because of the pandemic. For this reason, we will continue to implement a more facilitative income requirement to ensure that more people can apply.

For the 2020 tax year, the income requirement will continue to be the minimum necessary income, instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30%, and will allow regular Employment Insurance benefits and temporary COVID-19 benefits, such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, to be included towards the sponsor’s income. This measure will ensure that applicants are not penalized for losing income during the pandemic.”

The addition of Xiamen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Harbin more than doubles the number of mainland Chinese cities in the program, and comes just months after Minister Alexander expanded the program to include Tokyo and Seoul in May 2015. Spearheaded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Minister Alexander worked closely with Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney to develop a system that would be economically beneficial for Canada while continuing to protect our borders. Under Minister Blaney’s leadership, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) expedited the risk assessment of each of the five cities, helping accelerate today’s program expansion. Eligibility criteria and the list of participating cities are available on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The expanding Canada China Transit Program enables YVR to capitalize on its geographic advantage and continue to grow as North America‘s preferred connecting hub.

Airlines currently participating in the program are: Air Canada, Air Canada rouge, Air China, WestJet, Cathay Pacific, Philippine Airlines, China Southern, Jazz Air, Sky Regional Airlines and Air Georgian.

“The addition of Chengdu, Fuzhou, Harbin, Shenyang and Xiamen to the Canada China Transit Program means even greater choice and flexibility for eligible Chinese travelers transiting through Canada, as well as new business opportunities for participating airlines and airports,” said Chris Alexander, Canada‘s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

…

“With the addition of five new cities to the Canada China Transit Program, our government continues to demonstrate its commitment to facilitating legitimate trade and travel, “said Steven Blaney, Canada‘s Minister of Public Safety.

Travelling to India has never been easier thanks to the new e-Tourist Visa Canada.

India is welcoming more Canadians to India this coming season with the e-Tourist Visa Canada being made available to Canadian citizens. During his inaugural bilateral visit to Canada in April 2015, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Canada would be added to a list of countries eligible for the visa on-arrival program. In the past, Canadians were required to apply in-person at one of the Indian consulates, enduring a labourous process that oftentimes deterred aspirational travellers from visiting. As of May 1st, clients visiting India for recreation and sightseeing can now simply apply online, upload their passport info, pay the US$62 fee, and travel to India with their printed e-Toursit visa (eTV) and have it stamped when they arrive at immigration. For more details on the program, go to https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html.

The following is the opinion of a Burnaby immigration consultant that has chosen to remain anonymous. It may or may not reflect the opinion(s) of RS Immigration Corporation. RS Immigration Corp provides assistance with Canadian immigration applications.

(click here)To watch a video about RS Immigration Corp (click here)

It appears while some countries, like India are making the visa application process easier. Other countries, such as Canada are introducing more Canadian visa requirements. For example, all visa applications to Canada will soon require bio metrics (2018-19). Moreover, visa exempt travelers to Canada by airport will soon need an electronic travel authorization (ETA).

This ETA, in my opinion, is a solution to the number of visa exempt visitors to Canada denied entry. With person being pre-screened, it will cut down on wait times and reduce government/tax payer costs. An example cost is the return air fare the Canadian government would pay to send someone back to their visa exempt country of residence. Also, this ETA benefits those who are visa exempt and unsure about their inadmissibility to Canada. Instead of learning at the airport and having to return home unexpected.
