Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will invite a record number of people to apply under the 2021 intake of the Program. IRCC will accept up to 30,000 additional applications, giving more Canadians and permanent residents than ever before the opportunity to bring their loved ones to Canada.

Using the same random selection process as used in previous years, IRCC will send invitations to potential sponsors who have already submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020. This will give additional interested sponsors the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. Invitations to apply will be sent over the course of 2 weeks, starting the week of September 20, 2021.

Those invited to apply as part of this process will be able to use our new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, which allows applications to be submitted electronically. This is part of our commitment to modernize Canada’s immigration system, and will speed up and simplify the application process.

We know that many Canadian families have experienced financial difficulties in the last year because of the pandemic. For this reason, we will continue to implement a more facilitative income requirement to ensure that more people can apply.

For the 2020 tax year, the income requirement will continue to be the minimum necessary income, instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30%, and will allow regular Employment Insurance benefits and temporary COVID-19 benefits, such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, to be included towards the sponsor’s income. Five cities added to visa-free program will encourage air service development at YVR

RICHMOND, BC, July 31, 2015 /CNW/ – Vancouver International Airport (YVR) welcomes the latest expansion to Canada China Transit Program, announced today by the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Effective immediately, five Chinese cities have been added to the list of approved Asian cities from which Chinese nationals can travel to YVR en route to the U.S. without requiring a Canadian visa.

The addition of Xiamen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Harbin more than doubles the number of mainland Chinese cities in the program, and comes just months after Minister Alexander expanded the program to include Tokyo and Seoul in May 2015. Spearheaded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Minister Alexander worked closely with Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney to develop a system that would be economically beneficial for Canada while continuing to protect our borders. Under Minister Blaney’s leadership, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) expedited the risk assessment of each of the five cities, helping accelerate today’s program expansion. Travelling to India has never been easier thanks to the new e-Tourist Visa Canada.

India is welcoming more Canadians to India this coming season with the e-Tourist Visa Canada being made available to Canadian citizens. During his inaugural bilateral visit to Canada in April 2015, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Canada would be added to a list of countries eligible for the visa on-arrival program. In the past, Canadians were required to apply in-person at one of the Indian consulates, enduring a labourous process that oftentimes deterred aspirational travellers from visiting. As of May 1st, clients visiting India for recreation and sightseeing can now simply apply online, upload their passport info, pay the US$62 fee, and travel to India with their printed e-Toursit visa (eTV) and have it stamped when they arrive at immigration. It appears while some countries, like India are making the visa application process easier. Other countries, such as Canada are introducing more Canadian visa requirements. For example, all visa applications to Canada will soon require bio metrics (2018-19). Moreover, visa exempt  travelers to Canada by airport will soon need an  electronic travel authorization (ETA).

This ETA, in my opinion, is a solution to the number of visa exempt visitors to Canada denied entry. With person being pre-screened, it will cut down on wait times and reduce government/tax payer costs. An example cost is the return air fare the Canadian government would pay to send someone back to their visa exempt country of residence. Also, this ETA benefits those who are visa exempt and unsure about their inadmissibility to Canada. Instead of learning at the airport and having to return home unexpected.
